Twenty20 & Round 4 round up!
20/20 cricket
Keswick started their Keswick 20/20 campaign in fine style with a comprehensive win over Warradale. With Rusty losing two tosses in two days we were sent out to field. Keswick started a little shaky but a fine catch to Rusty got the maroons back in the match. Keswick continually took wickets and was well led by captain Rusty taking 3-12, Lucky also bowled well with 1-16 from his 4 overs. The fielding on display was high class with two run outs and Simon 'Spook' Morris also chipped in catching 1 toddler and 2 dogs down at deep fine leg.
Keswick opened with the formidable duo of 'Dubs' and 'Bubs', with 20 centuries between them hopes were high for some epic bower hitting. Hopes were dashed when Doubleday fell in the 2nd over. At 1/2 Rusty and Heath “Bubbles” MacKay joined forces to smash Warradale to oblivion. The pair put on 102 runs in 9 overs and all but sealed an easy win. Heath smashed a crowd pleasing and bat breaking 69 while Rusty made a well constructed 33 to put us within a whisker of victory. A few late wickets then fell but the total of 121 set by Warradale was easily passed with 4 wickets in hand.
It was fantastic to see such great support and a massive thank you to everyone who came out and supported the boys. Thank you to Dudley for cooking the BBQ and for Ross for managing the money, and to Paul McGowran and Fordey for their camera work. Also thank you to Doc for umpiring the game. It was great to see so much committee support because without these members games like this would not get off the ground!
It was a fun day and the match played in great spirits was enjoyed by all.
Next game is against rivals (quarter final) Plympton Footballers so keep a look out for the date of this match as once again this promises to be a huge match.
A’s def. Sheidow Park
The A’s consolidated their position in the top 4 with a comprehensive
win over a Sheidow Park. Batting first in very hot conditions the A’s
slumped to 5/89 after losing 2 early wickets. An unbroken club record
6th wicket partnership of 179 between Heath Mackay (139*) and Ross
Ormsby (36*) put the side back in the drivers seat to amass 5/268. With
Sheidow down to 10 men due to a blazing Heath Mackay cut shot blowing
apart point’s little finger, only weather was goin to prevent us getting
the 6 points. Fortunately the weather held off and after starting the
2nd week in very wet n slippery conditions our bowlers worked really
hard to have Sheidow 5/84. Scotty Voigt (1/35), Lucky Singh (2/50) and
Greg Morris (2/13 off 10) all continued their good form with the ball in
tough conditions for the quicks and it was only a matter of time before
we were celebrating another good win.
B’s
The B’s lost the toss and got
absolutely pummelled against a strong Sheidow Park side at West Beach.
With everything in their favour the Sheidow side capitalised and amassed
a monster score of 4/327. CC (2/97 off 18) toiled hard for a lot of
near chances on the small and unforgiving West Beach oval, but without
luck the game was gone by the end of day 1. CC was given the chance to
open the innings with the bat and made the most of his chance scoring a
career best 76. Guy Hobbs closed in on his 4000th career run getting 27.
C’s
The C Grade
were also forced to field in the heat and after getting a good start and
having Ramblers 4/99 they weren’t able to finish off the job despite
the heroic performance of club legend Shaun Hansen who bowled a marathon
spell of 30 overs taking 5/112. He was well supported by Woody Williams
who bowled 12 overs for 2/70. Set a big chase of 291 they were never in
the hunt, conditions favoured the bowlers and a steady stream of
wickets saw the C’s bowled out for 115 with only Stuut (29) and the ever
reliable Murphy (22) offering any resistance.
D’s
The D’s had a great start
to the match and after day one looked to have all but sealed their first
win for the year. Batting in the heat the D’s were led by club debutant
Krishna who managed to snare the rare feat of a century on debut! A
free swinging Krishna smashed it all over the park and finished up with
129 in a magnificent display of batting. Bazz desperate for a win wanted
to cash in on Krishna’s hard work and declared with the score on 5/261
with 11 overs left to be bowled in the day. This proved a master stroke
and at the end of the day the opposition were reeling at 3/43.
Unfortunately this is how the scores finished with no play on the 2nd
week and the result ending in a draw.
E’s
The E’s again did it tough
this match struggling to get numbers, players not showing up crippled
the team. Kudos to the young Oke boys who joined dad and sub fielded,
well done lads! Another Keswick side forced to field in the stifling
conditions the E’s put in a good all round team performance to dismiss
WYC for 202. All the bowlers chipped in with wickets to Verco (3) Byas
(2) and Jolly (2). Some end of innings heroics from man of the match Kim
Tew (17*) saw the side get within a whisker of the points as the E’s
fell agonisingly close. Batting with only 10 players was never gonna
help the cause despite some solid digs by Rigby (34), Byas (39) and ‘Mr
Reliable’ Liam Harris (44). It was a good fighting effort from an
undermanned side but well led side.
